There's usually nothing I like more than a hot day in Texas, but today was hot. Stinkin hot! Seriously.
It was so hot that your eyebrows were attacked by the sweat from your forehead the moment you stepped outside.
My car felt like it had been pre-heated to 375 degrees and was ready to bake me.
There's a melted passie on my driveway. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow.
(And then I might think about picking it up or I may walk past it a few more times.)
One of our nieces hung out with me today. She and I were sweating as we loaded up my car with little boys. When we were pulling out of my driveway {sweating} she noticed my neighbor's sprinkler was on. She kinda groaned and said, "Man, I wanna run through that sprinkler right now." She was wiggling her legs as if she was ready to take off. I thought to myself, "She probably would."
If I would've given her the go ahead she probably would have flown out of the car and run head first into my neighbor's sprinkler. She probably wouldn't have cared that my neighbor is a grumpy old man who would have snarled at her. She probably wouldn't have minded that her church clothes were getting wet. She probably would have laughed really loud and waved at me. That crazy blonde hair of hers would have been wet and swinging around, slapping her in the freckles.
But, I just said, "mmm...I bet!" And we pulled out of the driveway and quietly drove to church....
Children of God weren't created to be quiet, straight laced, orderly people.
We weren't made to keep our church clothes clean.
This life is dirty, scabby, bloody and sometimes sopping wet.
When things get easy we're supposed to ask for our pots to get stirred. "God, mess things up! Use me for your glory!" and the really scary words, "Whatever it takes." But instead when things are quiet and orderly we say, "I'm so blessed." {I'm guilty}
Blessed are those who's children are wearing name brand clothes.
Blessed are you when your husband buys a new car.
Blessed are those who keep their houses really clean.
....ummmm no.
"Blessed are those who are persecuted
because of righteousness for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 5:10
"Blessed are those who hunger and
thirst for righteousness for they will be filled."
Matthew 5:6
"Blessed are you when people insult
you, persecute you, and falsely speak all kinds of evil
against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad..."
Matthew 5:11
Tonight I'm giving God permission to mess things up.
I want to serve the God of Jesus. I believe he is an extraordinary God who creates extraordinary people and does extraordinary things. I don't believe he is a mediocre God who creates mediocre people and does mediocre things.
